RE: On foot, on bikes, or dingy for Skagway?

We did a day trip from Whitehorse. The best part of the day was the beautiful drive over and back. Would not have enjoyed as much if we had the rig as many of the pull outs would not have accommodated it. A couple of hours in town and the train ride was enough of Skagway for us. Could have done the drive a couple more times.

RE: 10 days in South Fork Colorado. Where to go ???

You might consider a few days in the Alamosa area. Sand Dunes, train rides, etc. See:

RE: Hiway 2

Figure out how far you wish to travel in a day, then pick out a town close to that destination. Then google "rv park campground cityname, state"
For example. Lakota, ND is about 300 miles from Superior. In the google search box type:
rv park campground lakota, nd
You will find several references for campgrounds in that area.

RE: moab to oregon coast best route

On another trip, spring 2003, we took US-26 from Redmond to Ontario. Very scenic. Recommend this route.

RE: moab to oregon coast best route

The route we took in 2005 back from the coast (Coos Bay) was:
SR 42 east to
I-5 south to Medford, OR
SR-62 north to
SR-140 east to
US-95 south to Winnemucca, NV
I-80 east to Battle Mountain, NV
SR-305 south to Austin, NV
US-50 east to Ely, NV
US-93 south to Panaca, NV
SR-319/56 east to Beryl Junction, UT
SR-18 south to home (Dammeron Valley, UT)
We were hauling a 30 foot 5th wheel and had no problems with road conditions. Unless you have some other reason to be in Salt Lake City, I suggest you avoid it.

RE: Trash Can Turkey Dilemma

Do not know if there is a non galvanized metal trash can. We always built a very hot fire inside a new can to burn it out before using it to cook with.

RE: camping recommendations around Richfield, UT?

If you take UT24 west of Green River, there are a couple of very nice RV parks in Torrey and you get to drive through Capital Reef on your way back to I-70.

RE: CHITINA, ALASKA

We drove to Chitna on a day trip from Valdez. Small farms along the Edgerton Hwy. Did not look too prosperous, but guess they get by. Not much in Chitna. A gift shop was about it. Someone was fixing up an old building to open up a restaurant. Often wondered how they made out. Looked like wishful thinking to me.

RE: Vidalia Onions

In this part of the country, we wait for the Texas 1015s to hit the produce bins. So sweet you can eat like an apple.

RE: cooking times in a crockpot

The longer you cook lean meats, the dryer they will get, even after they fall apart. Lean meats are not suitable for slow cooking. Fatter rib chops would have cooked better. Lean meats can only be cooked until they reach internal temp of 150f. Pan fry or grill lean meats.
I usually pan fry 1/2 to 3/4 inch center cut chops in a tablespoon of oil at medium heat for 7 minutes each side. Add soup mixture and bring to simmer and serve over noodles or rice.

RE: Fuel Cost

What difference does it make??? If you are going to Alaska, you'll pay what ever it takes. It's not like you have a lot of choices on the Alaska Highway. Fill up when ever you get a chance.

RE: fresh meats & produce across the border

This topic has been discussed over and over on this forum. Do a forum search at the top of this page and you will get more conflicting info then you can use. Do a Google search for Canada border crossing to get current info from the proper authority on this subject.

RE: Hwy 14, Utah

I have been through these two tunnels several times and do not recall them being that small. Have not been through them in our new rig. For pictures of these tunnels see:

Can anyone verify what The Fireball says about them??

RE: Route costs on Trailer life maps

If you divide 368 by 75, you will get 4.9 hrs. No one can sustain that kind of speed, however. It would make more sense to figure on 55 mph as an average speed.
368 / 55 = 6.69 hrs.
